Typhoon Cosme restoration update (June 13, 2008) — We are working as quickly as possible to restore our distribution lines and equipment. All primary (13.8 KV) ‘backbone’ lines have been restored. A number of primary ‘lateral’ lines and secondary (220 V) lines remain to be done. About 80% of customers are now energized.

Timeline — May 17, Saturday: Typhoon Cosme hit. In the following 10 days, no power was available from the Labrador substation of National Transmission Company (TransCo) due to damage on the 69 kV Labrador-Calasiao subtransmission line. From the San Manuel substation of TransCo, only limited power was available due to capacity constraints. At times, there was no power at all from San Manuel due to a problem with the transformer there.

May 28, Wednesday, early morning: The supply of power from TransCo to DECORP was restored to full capacity.

June 4, Wednesday, afternoon: Power from the Labrador substation of TransCo was again interrupted due to a tornado in Lingayen. Power was restored early the next morning.

Acknowledgements — We are grateful to the distribution utilities who have sent crews to help in the restoration: Angeles Electric Corporation, Cabanatuan Electric Corporation (Celcor), Clark Electric Distribution Corporation, La Union Electric Company (LUECO), Meralco, San Fernando Electric Light and Power Company (SFELAPCO), and Tarlac Electric.
